Chennai Birla Planetarium happens to be the most modern planetarium holding cosmic shows in India. Shows are conducted in English and Tamil. The planetarium has been built in the memory of the great industrialist B.M. Birla. The visitors would come across shows that reflect the latest advancement of technology and science.
The Birla Planetarium, Chennai is located at Kotturpuram, which lies between Adayar and Guindy. The Birla Planetarium, Chennai was built in 1988 in the memory of the renowned industrialist B.M. Birla and has been named as B.M .Birla Planetarium. The planetarium is considered to be the most advanced and updated planetarium of India. Birla Planetarium in Chennai is a part of Periyar Science and Technology Museum.
One of the major attractions at the planetarium in Chennai is the presence of the highly sophisticated GM II projector. There is a seminar hall, classroom studio at Chennai Birla Planetarium, where discussions and workshops are conducted by eminent scientists on astronomy. The planetarium is fully computerized. The planetarium can accommodate 236 persons and is fully air conditioned.
At Birla Planetarium of Chennai, audio-visual programs on various aspects of astronomy are shown to the visitors. The projector that is present in the planetarium offers special effects on the pierced inner dome of the planetarium, which is made of aluminum.

The timings of the shows in English are: 10.45am, 1.15 pm, 3.45 pm
The timings of Tamil shows are: noon and 2.30pm
On the second Saturdays special show on night sky observation is arranged by Chennai, Birla Planetarium from 7pm to 9 pm.
